Andean Condor Photo Safari

The Andean Condor has the largest wing area of any bird on earth. To see these wonderful birds, in all their glory, amidst the High Andes is reason enough to make a trip to Chile. On our Andean Condor Photo Safari, the king of the Andes can be seen in numbers and at close proximity, in an easily accessible location.

The amazing size of this bird has been something to marvel at and inspire awe since times long ago. The Andean Condor appears in many pottery and textile designs of the pre-Colombian cultures in the Andes. Today it appears on the coat of arms of Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile, and is a powerful symbol of national identity for the people of the Andes.

If you are looking to photograph this mythical bird in the wild, hear the wind rush through its feathers as it swooshes by overhead, and learn about its ecology, we organize special day trips up into the Andes near Santiago for this particular reason.

During our ~20 annual trips to the area, we have never failed to see Condors. The population is stable and seeing them is basically guaranteed.

We’ll pick you up early at your hotel and drive into the mountains to the best places to find Condors. The landscapes throughout the day are fabulous, and our clients are always amazed to find such fantastically beautiful and dramatic scenery so close to Santiago.

We’ll spend the whole day in the mountains, not only looking at Condors, but we’ll also have the chance to see many specialties of the scrubland of central Chile. Like the Moustached Turca and Dusky-tailed Canastero, among others. Unique flora and interesting wildlife are also plentiful in the area.

The Andean Condor Photo Safari can easily be combined with our other Photo Safaris of Pumas in Torres del Paine and Shearwaters on Isla Mocha. We can also arrange for trips out of Santiago to be photography focused for the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover and Magellanic Woodpecker.
